PERSONALITY FEATURE

Pitfalls: Alleviate a Leader to Win in Life

By: Elma L. Rabago

Commonly tagged as a busy person, doing things beyond ordinal student routine. A public figure, open to criticisms and sometimes insult. Having been caught in the spotlight trying to maintain steadfast image predetermined by leadership skills and a heart to serve the entire studentry.

Junwerlo M. Ng popularly known as “Ajong” is just an ordinary student with an extraordinary perspective if life. He’s neither a hero nor a conqueror; he’s just a casual third year Bachelor in Secondary Education Student majoring English. What makes him defined as such is his unusual passion to serve with the simplest armor – skills. Add to it is the supplement of his principles in life. He’s never an evidence of mediocrity for he is always settling for excellence. These are his assets upon being a responsible president of Central Student Government (CSG) of Cagayan de Oro College-Phinma.

Leadership is his passion. The only thing that complicates it, is handling public criticism which would come in myriad ways from spectators around. This may go on a variety of impact to him. Some would boost his anger; leave him a challenge while some would also inspire him to do better next time.

In every activity he’s handling, inevitable flaws really exist. This is a fact that justifies his human nature, being open to imperfections and missteps. But the public seems to be unstoppable in throwing out tactless comments without filtering the words to be used. This might hurt Ajong, but he never allow this encounter to put him down. Instead he just smiles, wave, wish them well and move on, sine he believes that without criticisms, he will be nothing but a stagnant Ajong: not progressive and immature. This young fellow also believes that he doesn’t have the power to please everybody but based on his performance, he’s already living up to the standards of the public.

Ajong, is able to experience many things which are not guaranteed by the four corners of the classroom. It is his greatest achievement that he’s able to lead the CSG team amidst criticism. Beyond all the time-consuming tasks and demanding responsibilities as a CSG president, Ajong is now a grown individual, sharpened by his exceptional leadership determination, supplemented by the criticism in every drawback of his imperfections.

Living up with a spotlight being scrutinized with transparencies has been a culture of Ajong. This might connote something uneasy but this serves as a tool for Ajong to grow and tread the way towards maturity. Now, he’s proud enough and grateful to say that, with proper attitude and mindset, pitfalls help a leader win in life.

Handling Relationships

Teenage years entail fun supplemented with responsibilities. And this wouldn't be complete without establishing relationships with the opposite sex. This type of relationship must be preceded by the thought of paving the way towards maturity. Integrating commitment in a relationship is a part of growing up. This is a thought that majority of the teenagers do neglect. That's why oftentimes they fail and eventually end up neglecting because of a foolish mistake. This is because they prioritize fun and setting aside the virtue bestowed in them along with responsibilities.

These all pertain to accountability along with responsibility. There has to be a careful consideration on the possible consequences that they would probably encounter if they fail to take hold of their decisions. Teenagers have to remind themselves that entering into relationships is never an easy thing. It is not just about fun and enjoyment to feel satisfaction but it must be something that would inspire someone to do better. Relationships must urge a person to establish a definite direction in life aiming to have a vision of an ideal future.

Relationships must end up molding a person in a better one. It must prepare a person upon the authentic roles that one has to perform in the near future. It must give us a wider view of life hereby seeing ourselves progressing and at the same time influencing your partner to create a picture of life in a more mature perspective.

The world is widely done by God. There are lots of people that we would meet along the way. It is up to us as to whom we decide to be with, and how are we going to establish relationships with them. Just don't forget to remain accountable and responsible. You must always to it for the better.

Stop Blaming and Start Working

The entire nation was shocked when typhoon Sendong hit Misamis Oriental last December 16, 2012- Saturday! That incident devastated the lives of the Filipinos especially Kagay-anons and Iligainons. Innocent lives were killed, properties were destructed, lives were endangered and painful memoirs lingered.

Since a great number of people are affected by Sendong, there are also a bunch of speculations pinpointing unto government officials and private companies operating on mining and logging industries as the individuals who are held accountable of this tragic encounter. There are myriad number of accusations arguing as to who are we going to put the blame on. Some are saying it's a sole responsibility of the city government, while others would say it's everybody's credit to mother nature. Still, the question of blaming remains unanswered.

Whatever it may be, it's just a waste of time to merely blame each other of Typhoon Sendong's tragic visitation. Yes, we are all affected. Emotional dilemma and trauma are inviolably paving the way unto irrational mind-setting. Why don't we just stop blaming and start working for the better? Isn't it wiser that way?
We have to work for the better. Be mindful of our actions. Stay vigilant in our proceedings, for being heedful and wary is the most powerful tool that a man can employ any time. Let us quit in the habit of being indifferent. We are all liable of the underlying consequences, nobody's exempted!

Let us change our previous detrimental lifestyles, be accountable enough, welcome responsibilities embrace more intricate errands and see the world crucially.

Impede culpability and initiate accomplishments!

1. Appreciate your friends. Friends are like being on the toilet... you can dump on them, and everything you dump will eventually flush away.

3. Show interest.Make your friend feel special. Again with the two-sided thing, it shouldn't be all about them.
4. Have fun together.
5. Trust each other.Make sure you are both keeping your promises. Try not to gossip about and backstab this friend.
6. Cry together. Be there for your friend, and if they feel the same way about you, they will be there for you.
7. Support each other through good times and bad. Even if they aren't very popular, stick by their side. They will truly appreciate that.

11. Be respect to your friends

• When you have an argument, don't fight or insult each other; just talk about it!
• Always have patience in your friend's fault,it takes time to do the right thing.
• A true friendship is something that can stand the test of time. Simply because you haven't spoken or met your friend in years, does not mean that you are friends no longer.

5 Reasons Kids Hate Your Lessons – and Some Simple Solutions

As future educators, we must orient ourselves with the most common reasons why students hate our lessons...

1. it’s boring!

This is the number one reason, and one I’m sure we can all relate to because as more matured individuals, we also tend to zone out when we’re bored. Students most often complain that lessons become boring when they feel like they’re too abstract or entirely irrelevant to them (surely you too wondered why you needed to learn algebra at school. When were you EVER going to use it...?)

The solution: Find ways to keep the lesson relevant to the students. Teach in the context of a modern day murder mystery. The most important thing to remember is that if you’re bored teaching them, they’re probably bored learning too... so think of ways to keep it interesting.

2. it’s too hard!

If your material is pitched at the wrong level, whether it’s too easy or too hard, you’ll soon find that your students become disengaged and stop trying to learn. Students hate to fail and many say they’d rather not try at all than give something that they think is beyond their capabilities a go only to end up failing.

The solution: Plan carefully to ensure that you can differentiate your lesson for the different abilities of learners within your class. Always have a couple of extension activities up your sleeve for those who finish work very quickly and think of ways to make the lesson accessible for less able students, without making them feel they’re working on a dumped down version.

3. I don’t want to work on my own!

Whilst as teachers we can often see the benefit of asking students to work alone as we think they’ll concentrate better and be less likely to be distracted, the students don’t always see it the same way.

The solution: Where it’s practical, group work will often work wonders for students’ enthusiasm. Students relish the opportunity to work in a collaborative style to aid their understanding and enjoy being given the opportunity to negotiate, explain and communicate ideas with their peers in order to generate a better understanding of a project.

4. I hate learning stuff off by heart!

Whilst students can understand the need to learn facts and figures in order to pass exams, they also tend not to enjoy it. It’s a very unfulfilling way of learning.

The solution: Get creative. Instead of expecting your students to learn hard dry facts by rote, turn it into a game or competition. Split the class in two and see which half can remember the most French adjectives from the last lesson, or which team can best describe the process of glaciation. There are hundreds of online resources you can use to add a bit of spice to the less exciting parts of the curriculum and where you really have no inspiration just try ensure that your lessons are planned so that you don’t do too much of the tedious stuff in one hit.

5. there’s never enough time, there’s no point!

Students get really frustrated when they’re finally getting their head around a difficult concept, or really getting stuck into a project and then then bell goes and they’re off to a different lesson entirely. It’s pretty frustrating for the teacher too!

The solution: Plan your time wisely, ensure that where possible there is enough time and that everything is fully prepared so you don’t waste half the lesson sorting out basic admin. If instructions are complicated, ask students to read through them beforehand for homework and to come to class ready with any questions. Try and plan lessons involving projects that might run over for before lunchtime or the end of the day, and be prepared to stay behind a little to help your students wrap things up. If your school’s up for it, plan an enterprise week or similar where students can work on major projects for the whole week which draw on a wide range of subjects across the curriculum.
